Creation of a new National Park
The principle long-term project goal is the creation of a new dramatic national park, which will ensure Chile's highest conservation protection for an area of at least 750,000 acres -an area larger than Chile's Torres del Paine National Park- and help guarantee the survival of the endangered huemul deer. A secondary, but equally important goal, is for the creation of Patagonia National Park to stimulate a shift in the local economy from pastoral agriculture towards a more benign "production" of tourism. |
